Liver transplanted for second time in groundbreaking Hong Kong op

Hong Kong (dpa) - Surgeons in Hong Kong successfully transplanted a liver that had already been transplanted 11 years ago, a news report said Friday.

The liver, given to 37-year-old body buider Wong Wan-shing, came from a donor identified only as Mr So, who received the organ 11 years ago, the South China Morning Post reported.
The liver became available for donation after So died of a stroke on October 1, aged 60.
"There is no age limit in using the liver. It is different from the kidney or heart," the hospital's head of surgery, Professor Lo Chung-mau, was quoted as saying.
The liver was functioning normally in Wong's body after the surgery, the report said.
Both the donor and the recipient were Hepatitis B sufferers, the hospital said, in another possible world first.
