NLA endorses new ombudsman, Council of State chief

The National Legislative Assembly on Wednesday endorsed a new ombudsman and the new secretary general of the Council of State.
The NLA endorsed Gen Wittawat Ratchatanan as a new ombudsman with 170 votes. Three NLA members voted against him while four others abstained.
Wittawat is a former deputy permanent secretary for Defence Ministry.
The NLA voted to endorse Wittawat after it heard a report from a committee in charge of examining the profiles, behaviours and ethics of the ombudsman candidate.
The NLA then endorsed Disthat Hotrakit as the new secretary general for the Office of the Council of State.
Disthat was promoted from the post of deputy secretary general of the Council of State.
He was endorsed with 174 votes. Four NLA members abstained.
The NLA did not set up a panel to check his profile on the grounds that he is already an NLA member.
