Major investment to deliver cutting edge technology to Thai students

Tens of thousands of private university students would be given access to Adobe's Creative Cloud as part of their courses, thanks to the recent signing of a landmark agreement between Adobe Systems and the Association of Private Higher Education Institut

Some 17 private universities, all Apheit members, last week signed up for the three-year agreement. Apheit will oversee the Enterprise Term License Agreement (ETLA) which will include more than 4,000 Creative Cloud licences enabling an estimated 100,000 students to learn using Adobe Creative Cloud.
Wayne Weisse, Adobe’s education business manager for Asia Pacific, said the agreement was a key step for the Thai education.
“Through this partnership with Apheit member universities, tens of thousands of students will be able to use Adobe Creative Cloud to further their education, fuel their creativity and graduate with the skills to make an immediate contribution to the future of the nation and the health of the economy,” Weisse said.
“Adobe Creative Cloud brings everything together for schools and universities to empower teachers, staff and students. Creative Cloud gives them access to the world’s leading creative apps for design, web, video, and photography – all right on the desktop – along with seamless opportunities to share and collaborate. Creative Cloud offers all the essential tools to help students achieve their full creative potential,” Weisse said.
The importance of fostering creativity in schools and the workplace was underlined by a recent “Creative Dividend” study released by Forrester in partnership with Adobe, which showed companies that embraced creativity performed better than their rivals. Another study by Adobe revealed that seven out of 10 hiring managers did not believe students were ready for today’s dynamic workplace, but 78 per cent said creativity was a requirement for economic growth.

‘Supports the elimination of software piracy’

Apheit president Pornchai Mongkhonvanich said this was an opportunity to give students access to world-class software and to break the cycle of software piracy.
“This is an historic partnership that will be a showcase to educational institutions around the country and will equip students for the future,” he said.
Apheit Academic and Quality Assurance Committee chairman Wirat Lertpaitoonphan said, “This is the result of years of planning and research into how to deliver the very best in educational opportunities to the students of Apheit’s members… This is a clear example that Apheit members are taking serious responsibility and action in enhancing the quality of education as well as supporting elimination of software piracy.”
Dhurakij Pundit University’s Information Technology Strategic Planning director Withoon Yencharoen said: “We aim to groom up our students to step into real
working world and interact well to digital age, thus the use of Adobe creative cloud helps us empower students and rise up their creative capabilities… We’ve planned to launch this service for students in semester 2 in January 2015 and expected 2,000 students using our resource.”
Rangsit University president assistant Choonhapong Thaiaupathump said: “During the time of stepping into AEC and the country has been transforming into digital economy, we need to seed up our students to be ready for all aspects, particularly especially in the IT and Digital to gain competitive advantage in the future. Our partnership with Adobe is a fruitful collaboration to boost up our students’ capabilities.”
Sripatum University’s School of Digital Media dean Kamon Jirapong said: “Sripatum University drives students to use Adobe Creative Cloud as primary suitable and easy to use creative tools overspreading from starting process until the end. Today, the government moves to invest in the future of education and the digital economy, we believe that the great ideas with great tools will level up and enhance students’ capabilities to compete in local and international level.”
