Rights agency files police complaint over forgery

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) yesterday filed a complaint over forgery of documents that alleged the agency was involved with a protest over encroachment in a national park in Chiang Mai.

NHRC secretary-general Pirom Sriprasert said she and commission staff filed a complaint to police to arrange a legal process on a charge of producing a fake document.
The move came after the agency recently revealed that some people produced forged receipts, claiming the NHRC supported the media and transport costs for local people to join a rally. Protesters demanded that the NHRC to examine the role of government officials in allowing a private firm to encroach on land at Mae Ngao Saai National Park in Chiang Mai.
The private firm was accused of encroaching on land to mine for lignite, harming the environment and local community.
