Student faces jail over lese majeste

A 24-year-old university student was sentenced to two and half years in jail Tuesday after the Criminal Court found him guilty of lese majeste charges.

Akaradej Iamsuwan was accused by police of posting a message on Facebook that was deemed insulting to the monarchy. He was arrested in Nong Chok district in Bangkok and his computer confiscated as evidence.
The student confessed to the charges. The court, finding the defendant guilty of violating Article 14 of the Computer Related Offences Act and Article 112 of the Criminal Code, initially sentenced him to five years jail, but commuted it to two and half years because he confessed.
