The decision was made during a meeting on Wednesday between Foreign Minister Tanasak Patimapragorn and his Vietnamese counterpart, Pham Binh Minh, on the sidelines of the Asean Summit in Myanmar. The date of the meeting will be decided later.
General Tanasak is accompanying Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha at the leader’s first Asean Summit.
The meeting between the two foreign ministers aims to strengthen the Thailand-Vietnam strategic partnership and cooperation.
Thailand, under the government of then-prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, initiated the first Thailand-Vietnam joint cabinet retreat in Danang in 2004.
The second retreat was held in Hanoi in 2012 when Thaksin’s sister Yingluck was prime minister.
