Agency told to help people in drought-hit zones

Interior Minister General Anupong Paochinda called on the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department yesterday to provide help to 381 villages in drought-hit zones in Sakon Nakhon's Phanna Nikhom, Akat Amnuay, Wanon Niwat and Sawang Daen Din districts

The department also said 30,183 people in nine districts in Phatthalung province had been hit by flooding and as of press time, help had been sent to four coastal districts that were still inundated.
Deputy Interior Minister Suthee Makboon said yesterday that the Metropolitan Waterworks Authority would spend Bt200 million next year to lay pipes to expand water access in Bangkok’s suburbs in order to help some 13,000 residents deal with drought.
