EC preparing for local admin polls
Election Commission secretary-general Puchong Nutrawong said the EC had surveyed and scrutinised information regarding local administrations whose terms will expire next year, and is preparing for elections as and when they are scheduled.
“I have looked through the information from the Provincial Election Commission and find that the terms of 940 local administrations throughout the country will end next year,” Puchong said.
He said the administrations whose terms will end soon included 16 Provincial Administration Organisations, seven city municipalities, 36 town municipalities, and 347 subdistrict municipalities.
The terms of 534 Subdistrict Administrative Organisations, and 169 administrations in the central suburban regions, 203 in the Central and Eastern regions, 158 in the Southern region, 183 in the Northeastern region and 227 in the Northern region would end in 2015.
Puchong said this process by the
EC was not unusual, and the commission needed be ready if a provincial adminis-tration election were scheduled immediately.
