Reserves up despite falling stock prices

Thailand's foreign reserves shot up by nearly US$2 billion on December 12 compared to the previous week.

According to the Bank of Thailand's data, reserves stood at US$158.5 billion on December 12 against $156.9 billion on December 5. However, the net forward positions narrowed from $24.1 billion to $23.7 billion.
The reserves rose despite a slump in the Thai stock market in the week.
It was reported that funds are being shifted from the stock market to the bond market, expecting an increase in interest rates.
