Ban electoral fraudsters for life call

National Reform Council member Sayumporn Limthai has proposed banning people found guilty of electoral fraud for life as an effective way of curbing electoral fraud.

Sayumporn also said that the Election Commission’s job of organising nationwide elections was overwhelming and should be transferred to the Interior Ministry.
The EC should focus on regulating elections and looking for fraud, he said.
There should also be changes to how the EC commissioner was selected, he said.
Up until now commissioners were recruited from former judges, but Sayumporn proposed selecting them from various professions so that they had a better vision and a better ability to work with people.
Another NRC member, Wanchai Sornsiri, proposed not only banning electoral fraudsters for life but also banning their spouses and children for life to prevent them being put forward as nominees.
