New floating market to be launched

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), the Tourism Authority of Thailand and the Tourism Ministry are to introduce a new floating market on the canal near the Government House next month in response to a request from the prime minister.

BMA spokesperson Tridao Apaiwong said that the first market would be open from February 12 to 15 from 10am to 5pm. The three others will be held during the weekends of February 21-22; February 28-March 1 and March 7-8.
The market is expected to attract both foreigners and tourists and will offer a range of activities including Thai traditional games, boat races and tours along the Padung Krungkasem Canal.
Prime Minister General Prayuth Chan-O-Cha recently came up with the idea of building a new floating market near the Government House as a way of supporting tourism.
The BMA is organising boat tours, which will be held twice a day at 4pm and 5pm and take up to 40 passengers.
