Cambodian workers injured in building collapse in Pattaya

THREE CAMBODIAN workers were injured yesterday when the third floor of a hotel being built in north Pattaya in Chon Buri province collapsed yesterday.

Construction was suspended pending a probe by Pattaya City’s Division of Public Works to determine the cause of the collapse.
The incident occurred at 11am at a construction site behind the Big C store on Phetch Trakul Road.
Police suspect that scaffolding that supported the newly laid third floor became overloaded and collapsed.
One of the injured workers, Tee Sam, 26, told police that he and two others were working on |the newly laid third floor when it suddenly collapsed and they all fell down with it and sustained bruises.
Fortunately, other workers were outside the building at that time so no one else was injured or killed.
Pattaya permanent secretary Pakorn Sukhonthachat, who went with other officials to inspect the scene, said the building belonged to Mike’s Place Co Ltd, which aimed to open a 17-storey 287-room hotel. He said the hotel was being built by Vorrakit Construction and had a proper building licence.
He said construction was suspended pending a structural probe to determine if the construction was up to standard. Related parties would soon be invited to discuss what happened, he said.
