Martial law still needed : Wissanu

Martial law is still necessary for the country's safety and security, Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krue-ngam said Thursday.

He remained positive that the international community, including the US, will understand the urgency and needs of this special law.
He also referred to statements made by the US' Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs Daniel Russel, who called the Thai government to lift the law.
Wissanu said that the law is still required according to intelligence reports.  The martial law imposed in Thailand does not reflect a severe crisis in the country as perceived from abroad, he said.
The government has continued to monitor the situation and that the public are affected by the martial law on a minimal level.
