Police arrested Kunteer Pear and Chan Sofarn after finding a total of more than 10,000 pirated products hidden in seven carts. They confessed they had ordered the products from Cambodia and hired Cambodian workers to smuggle them to Thailand.
The seized products are estimated to be worth about Bt10 million.
The arrests were made after police spotted the Cambodian workers pushing the carts across the border but away from Rongklua Market.
Police then followed the Cambodian women who were checking the carts. They found sacks of used clothing and under the sacks, large quantities of pirated goods including sport clothes, women’s shoes and women’s bags.
The two suspects claimed ownership of those products, saying they were going to sell them to Cambodian traders in the market.
The investigation revealed that the suspects hired the Cambodian workers to smuggle the pirated products across the border. They paid tax as the second-hand clothes and placed these at the top of trolleys to fool police.
