The Miss Universe Myanmar Organisation has been given one month’s notice to decide whether or not Myanmar is able to host the Miss Universe pageant. The lack of funding is cited as a major obstacle.
"We have been given a month to decide about whether or not we will host Miss Universe pageant. It's not enough for us. Such kind of pageants should be hosted by our country, but our main challenge is the budget," said Soe Yu Wai, national director of the Miss Universe Myanmar Organisation.
The organisation has been in talks with local firms to attract sponsorship amid negotiations with the Ministry of Tourism and Culture.
