South peace march nears finish line

The 20-strong team marching for the restoration of peace in the southernmost provinces has completed half of the course, winning warm welcome from local residents along the way.

The team, set to complete a 200-kilometre march, departed Yala province on February 15 with the aim of reaching the finish line at Ban Tak Bai School in Narathiwat’s Tak Bai district on February 21.
The march – led by Mahidol University’ Center for Peace-building director Gothom Arya – arrived in Pattani province yesterday.
Meanwhile, violence continued yesterday when a roadside bomb blew up in Pattani’s Muang district and injured a 26-year-old border-patrol policeman. The bomb was reportedly meant to harm the eight-strong caravan of police tasked with protecting teachers.
