BMA to discuss 268 families affected by riverside development

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) will host a subcommittee meeting soon to mull remedial measures for 268 families from the Chao Phraya riverside.

The families will be affected by the Chao Phraya roadway and recreational area to be developed from Phra Pinklao Bridge to Rama 7 Bridge, a distance of 14 kilometres in total.
BMA permanent secretary Sanya Cheenimit said Deputy Prime Minister General Prawit Wongsuwon, in his capacity as the project’s chairman, set four subcommittees. They included a sub-panel for legal affairs led by Attorney-General Trakul Winitnaiyapak, which would find remedial measures and also check if any community has encroached on the river.
An informed source said the area includes eight temples, 36 piers, six hotels and restaurants, plus 19 key venues, Meanwhile, the 268 riverside homes were initially found to encroach on the river, the source said. As Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha wanted to return land for public usage, the project would discuss remedial measures for the affected families. The study and related steps would take 14 months, then construction would take 18 months, the source said.
