Somyot attends rite for slain undercover officer

National police chief General Somyot Poompanmuang yesterday over a bathing rite yesterday for Police Sub-Lieutenant Kriengkrai Phumpreuksachat, an undercover officer from Chiang Rai killed during a drug 'sting' on Friday.

In the same operation, in which police bought 4,000 ‘yaba’ pills for Bt120,000 from four drug gangsters in a wooded area at Tambon Doi Hang in Chiang Rai’s Muang district, an informant aged 30 was also seriously injured. The culprits, however, managed to flee on foot into the forest with both money and the drugs.
During the bathing rite at Wat Chiang Yeun, Somyot gave Bt2.5 million in assistance money to Kriengkrai’s family. His cremation will be held at Ban Pa Ngae cemetery on Thursday. The 54-year-old officer was also promoted five ranks posthumously, and his son will be granted the right to serve in the police if he wishes.
