Tarit will be treated fairly, NACC says

THE National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) insisted |yesterday the agency would ensure justice for former Department of Special Investigation chief Tarit Pengdith, who has asked for another 30-day postponement to submit a retroactive asset declaration

“The NACC will provide justice,” said Panthep Klanarongran, the commission president. “Tarit has the right to explain the frozen assets within 30 days; be they valuables, land or property, if Tarit can explain the assets’ origins, they will be returned to him.”
Panthep said the law allowed the accused to postpone the submission of their declaration for another 30 days.
The sub-panel on the case would report on Tarit’s request for a postponement last Thursday to the commission today so they could decide whether or not to approve it.
According to the original order issued on March 16, Tarit was given 30 days to provide the NACC with an explanation of Bt40.95 million in assets – Bt1.7 million of which was allegedly under his name and Bt39.2 million under his wife’s name.
That deadline expired yesterday.
Tarit is suspected to be “unusually rich”.
The assets – which are currently frozen – include cash from several bank accounts, land title deeds in Nakhon Ratchasima, Chai Nat and Pathum Thani province, two-storey concrete buildings, houses, and vehicles such as a Mercedes-Benz and a Toyota Alphard.
