Suu Kyi 'assassination' book under fire

A book entitled "Political Assassinations that Changed the World" has aroused heavy criticism for featuring Aung San Suu Kyi's picture alongside deceased leaders.

The book, authored by Maw Sin Kyal, does not contain an exact address of the publisher or distributor. It was officially listed as being distributed in March and was registered under Sate Kuu Cho Cho publishing house.
The book gives accounts of 17 assassinated political leaders, which includes cases from Myanmar history such as General Aung San and Saw Ba U Gyi, the first president of the Karen National Union, alongside leaders such as Mahatma Gandhi and Abraham Lincoln.
Questions arose over the inclusion of Suu Kyi’s picture. The Interim Press Council is being pressured into holding an investigation.
The owner of the registered publisher, San Oo, said: “The author wrote about Aung San Suu Kyi alongside General Aung San’s assassination. Since he wrote it while living abroad, he did not have access to every detail. So he just wrote about the difficulties that she had faced. The author had long-term ideas for the book cover. He picked the pictures and since it was written in the Myanmar language for the Myanmar people, he thought of using the pictures of the father and daughter.
