Appeals Court jails 65-year-old woman for insulting King

The Court of Appeals Tuesday overturned a suspended jail term ruling of the Criminal Court and sentenced a 65-year-old woman to one year in jail for committing a disrespectful act to a portrait of His Majesty the King.

The Appeals Court ruled that Titinan Kaewchan was not completely insane but she could still control herself when she made the disrespectful act to the King’s portrait in front of the Government Complex on Ratchada Road on July 13 2012.
On May 21 last year, the primary court gave her one year jail term but suspended it on ground that she has mental problem so that she could receive treatment.
Public prosecutors later appealed against the suspended jail term.
Titinan did not show any emotion when she heard the ruling by the Appeals Court Tuesday.
