Energy Ministry insists on LPG excise increase

The plan to increase LPG excise in the transport sector will continue, said Energy Minister, shrugging off objections from auto gas operators and consumers.

He said this is for all road users will be subject to taxes on a fair basis. Excise duty on petrol currently stands at Bt4 to 5 per liter; whereas that of LPG in the transport sector amounts to Bt1 per liter or Bt2.30 per kilo.
The new LPG taxation will come into effect when the Finance Ministry’s amendment of seven excise laws is completed and approved by the National Legislative Assembly.
Apart from LPG excise adjustment, the Ministry of Energy will speed up the construction of more NGV stations so as to enable NGV excise to increase by Bt1 per kilo as approved by the National Energy Policy Committee.
