With the approval, Thailand will amend cross-border agreements signed with the three countries since 1997, the government’s deputy spokesman Werachon Sukondhapatipak said.
Currently, workers from the three neighbouring countries use a border pass to pass checkpoints to work in border areas on a daily basis, he said. With the new agreement, they can stay to work in Thailand for 30 days, he said noting that the longer stay would be granted only when they get permission from the Labour Ministry.
The new measure would help boost economic activity in border areas as well as income for workers from nearby countries, he said.
The government is working to have special economic zones along border areas, and these need workers from neighbouring countries.
