More state agencies get access to household data

The Cabinet yesterday approved 22 state agencies getting access to Thai household registration information with photographs of residents, as well as birth and death registration, PM's Office deputy spokesman Maj Gen Sansern Kaewkamnerd said.

The agencies included the Royal Thai Police, the Royal Thai Armed Forces, the National Intelligence Agency, Internal Security Operations Command, the Office of the Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, the Excise Department, the Employment Department, the War Veterans Organisation of Thailand, the Office of National Anti-Corruption Commission, and the Airforce Personnel Department.
The Interior Ministry requested that 22 agencies to be added to the 119 agencies already authorised for get such computerised information, he said.
The rationale behind the move was the country’s situation with various and complicated threats meant that national security agencies needed to have access to such data to protect innocent people and find wrongdoers, Sansern said.
