Water trucks deployed to counter drought in Nakhon Ratchasima

Severe drought in Nakhon Ratchasima's 32 districts has prompted local administrative bodies to call for water trucks to ease the water shortage, provincial disaster prevention and mitigation official Sombat Trisuk said yesterday.

The impact of the EL Nino phenomenon also caused hot weather and reduced the rainfall level to below the standard of the average percentage of 50 despite the fact that the rainy season is upon us. Twenty-four districts have been declared drought disaster zones, including Bua Yai, Non Daeng, Bua Lai, Sung Noen, Ban Luam, Kham Sakae Saeng, and Wang Nam Kheow.
Sombat said over 780,000 residents were affected. His office dispatched 141 water trucks carrying 6,000-10,000 litres of water to help the affected people. It also plans to build five check dams and dredge underground wells.
