Nakhon Ratchasima Governor Thongchai Leu-adul said on Wednesday that 90 of 170 assault rifles in the armoury had gone missing since 2011 and that his predecessor had ordered a probe and filed police complaints. More than 20 persons of interest have been questioned, but nobody has admitted to stealing the weapons yet, he said.
A June 5 count of weapons in 32 districts showed five assault rifles missing, which were later found to have been borrowed by the Theparak district unit, he said, adding that some of the missing rifles may have been “borrowed” in a similar manner.
