AUTHORITIES in Chumphon province yesterday announced the arrest of two drug-smuggling suspects along with 100 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine worth Bt300 million.
Chumphon governor Wongsiri Phromchana said Songkran Omkorkul, 32, was detained when “ice” was found in his car at a Phetchkasen Highway checkpoint in Pathiew district. Somchai Thajampa, 32, who allegedly served as a lookout car driver, was also arrested.
The duo reportedly confessed to having transported similar amounts of “ice” from the Northeast to various hiding places in Phatthalung and Songkhla 16-18 times before. Each time they were allegedly paid Bt100,000-Bt150,000. Officials also said the “ice” would be distributed along with 10 million yaba pills that had already been smuggled and kept in the South.
