Two border patrol policemen were killed in a gun ambush yesterday morning in Narathiwat's Tak Bai district. Police believed it was part of the ongoing unrest in the deep South.
Police Sergeant 3rd Class Narongrit Noothong, 35, and Police Lance Corporal Winai Chidket, 26, had earlier gathered intelligence in the area about a possible attack in Tak Bai district and were riding a motorcycle back when the gunmen hiding in a roadside bush opened fire on them.
Police retrieved 19 spent bullets of M-16, 11mm and 9mm sizes from the scene on a road along Sungai Kolok River in Ban Sri Pha Ngan Moo 3 of Tambon Koh Sathon. The attackers took Narongrit’s 9mm pistol before fleeing.
