Suu Kyi warns voters of possible vote rigging

Aung San Suu Kyi, the chair of the National League for Democracy (NLD), warned voters to be wary of parties that have threatened voters not to vote for the NLD as they may attempt vote rigging.

“Forcing people to cast advance votes is in violation of the law,” she said.
The NLD leader held a campaign event at the theatre ground in Gwa, Rakhine State, on October 18, where she spoke about the possibility of voter fraud committed by her opponents.
“Voters must take notice of incentives created by political organisations. Threatening is worse than creating incentives,” Suu Kyi said.
“I often hear departmental staff being threatened and forced to cast advance votes. This is against the law,” she said.
“I would like to tell the people not to be afraid, despite the threats. If there are threats, we must be on the alert. The people should pay attention to those who are threatening voters not to vote for the NLD, in case they try to cheat another way,” Suu Kyi said.
“The sweet-talkers will flatter voters, saying they will give them incentives to vote another way. The people need to know the value of a vote. The people should not believe in the flatterers,” the NLD leader said.
Suu Kyi’s campaign tour to Tounggup, Thandwe and Gwa in Rakhine State ended without any problems. She made her next stop in Ayeyawady Region.
“Can you reunite the NLD with Tatmadaw, please?” asked the mother of a military officer during Suu Kyi’s campaign tour of Kyonpyaw, Ayeyawady Region, on October 18.
Suu Kyi replied that the NLD was willing to work together with the Myanmar Defence Services for the interests of the people.
“If the Tatmadaw accepts our offer, we will be ready to cooperate,” Suu Kyi said.
