Defence volunteer killed in Tak Bai bomb attack

A defence volunteer was killed yesterday when a bomb planted under his pickup truck exploded in Narathiwat's Tak Bai district.

Police suspect the attack was insurgents’ revenge for a bomb plot in Tak Bai exactly three years ago, in which one separatist militant was killed.
In yesterday’s attack Isma-ae Jihamart, 54, was killed when the bomb exploded at around 4pm on Boriban Prachachon Road in Tambon Jeh Heh.
Police investigators found bomb fragments and truck parts strewn across a 30-metre radius and suspect the explosive was placed in a 10kg box planted under the truck’s cockpit. The bomb was remotely detonated 200 metres from Isma-ae’s Tak Bai district office as he made his way home.
