Kyaw Thura, head of Public Relations Department of the USDP, told media that rumours are rife as the polling date draws near.
“As this rumour was originated online, we will address it through online channels – the official website and Facebook page. We cannot respond to it now but we will soon do it,” he said in the afternoon.
The rumour spread in social media since the afternoon of Wednesday that Thura Shwe Mann was sacked on November 3 when the party’s central election committee convened. According to USDP, there was no such meeting.
Aung Ko Win, a personal assistant to Thura Shwe Mann, said: "We haven’t received any notification. We know nothing about it. Thura Shwe Mann said nothing about it."
The USDP recently ousted Thura Shwe Mann as joint chairperson but he would represent the party in the race for a Lower House seat in Phyu Township.
He currently serves as speaker of both the Union Parliament and the Lower House Parliament.
