Four village defence volunters were killed and four other injured when insurgents detonated a homemade bomb hidden under the volunteers' security booth.
The attack at the defence volunteer booth of Ban Khok Khilek village in Tambon Tharua in Pattani’s Khok Pho district happened at 8:30 pm Thursday.
Col Yutthanam Phetmuah, deputy spokesman of the Internal Security Operations Command’s Forward Command, said the killed and injured defence volunteers were being stationed at the booth when insurgents detonated the bomb.
The spokesman did not explain how the insurgents could access the booth to bury the bomb beneath it.
The four injured volunteers were admitted to the Pattani Hospital.
In another attack, two troops of a teacher protection unit were injured when insurgents detonated a roadside bomb to ambush the unit in Tambon Pasemus in Narathiwat’s Sugnai Kolokd district at 8 am Friday, Yutthanam added.
