Former Myanmar dictator supports Suu Kyi 'with all of my efforts'

Myanmar's former dictator has pledged support to Aung San Suu Kyi in a secret meeting between the two.

Nay Shwe Thway Aung disclosed the meeting between Than Shwe, his grandfather, and Suu Kyi, leader of the incoming ruling party National League for Democracy, on his Facebook.
 
Than Shwe is former armed forces chief and former head of junta-controlled government. He remains the influential figure pivotal to changes taking place in Myanmar.
 
 
Nay Shwe Thway Aung said Than Shwe sees Suu Kyi as the country’s “future leader”.
 
“It is the truth that she will become the future leader of the country,” Than Shwe was quoted as saying at the meeting with Suu Kyi.
 “I will support her with all of my efforts."
 
Suu Kyi met Than Shwe due to “her belief in his influence on the government and military, said an NLD MP.
