Police are investigating the cause of the fire. There were no casualties reported in the blaze and fire damage was being estimated as of press time.
The fire broke out at 8.50pm on Monday in the second-floor fabric storage of “Dang Jai” shop, located next to a branch of Thanachart Bank, Chiang Mai Police’s traffic division superintendent Pol Colonel Piyapan Pattarapongsin said yesterday. Fire-fighters took half an hour to control the blaze, he said. An eyewitness told police no one was at the scene when the storage room caught fire, so it was suspected that a short circuit was the cause of fire. Previous fires this year, also occurring at Warorot Market fabric shops, caused over Bt10 million in damages.
