Thai-Myanmar border trade unaffected

Yangon - Trade along the Thai-Myanmar border is flowing regularly despite protests against the death sentence to two Myanmar nationals, according to Nyunt Aung, director general of the directorate of trade under the Ministry of Commerce.

Protests have spread across the nation, leading to rumours that the flow of commodities would cease.
“Trade is being carried out regularly,” said Myint Kyaw at the Myawaddy border gate.
An officer from the Mawtaung border in Tanintharyi Region, which is connected to Ranong in Thailand, said commodities were flowing as usual and furniture and oil palm were mostly exported to Thailand.
Trade volume with Thailand has exceeded US$800 million in this fiscal year.
