Prayut says no supreme patriarch naming until internal dispute’s resolved

Prime Minister General Prayut Chanocha Monday said he would not nominate any name for royal endorsement of the country’s 20th Supreme Patriarch position unless the dispute over an imminent nomination was settled.

“I have already said that this issue should be resolved first, or else I wouldn’t be able to propose a name,” the premier commented briefly to reporters.
Prayut’s comment followed the morning incident in which Phra Buddha Issara, the abbot of Wat Ornoi in Nakhon Pathom, filed a petition – reportedly backed by 300,000 signatures – to Prime Minister’s Office Minister ML Panadda Diskul at the Government House.
The monk called Prayut to apply ‘sovereignty power’  to get a respectable candidate for the position.
