Govt move to slash rice production hailed

Rice farmers and traders have supported the government’s plan to reduce rice production to 25 million tonnes of paddy this year in the hope it will lead to the industry’s sustainable development and longlasting stable prices.

Thai Agriculturalists Association president Suthep Kongmark said that rice farmers had agreed to cut rice production by about five million tonnes this year.
The move followed a meeting of the Commerce Ministry’s rice working committee to formulate a national rice strategy.
