The apology followed wide criticisms over the misconducts committed during the coverage on the transportation of the body of actor Tridsadee “Por” Sahawong. In a statement, the council directed the apology to the actor's family, relatives, fan club and the general public. It humbly accepted the crticisms and welcomed recommendations in improving the ethics.
It also promised to urgently host a discussion to lift the reporting standards, for greater trust from the public.
It insisted that ethics were the prerequisite of all, requiring media members to respect personal privacy and human dignity.
A campaign was launched on www.change.org on January 19, calling for a review in media ethics. At 6.21pm on January 20, the campaign has drawn over 23,000 signatures.
