Vocational students to repair police vehicles

Vocational students to repair police vehicles

A project to have vocational/technical students repair police cars and motorcycles was launched yesterday in a bid to curb student brawls by engaging them in such social service activities.

The collaboration between the Office of Vocational Education Commission (Ovec) and the Metropolitan Police Bureau would also help promote familiarity and friendship among students, sharpen their vocational skills and improve their schoolwork, said acting metropolitan police chief Pol Lt-General Sanit Mahathaworn.
Chanvech Boonpraderm, Ovec deputy secretary-general, said the project would have students from six colleges, including Min Buri Technical College and Kanchanapisek Vocation Training College Nong Chok, provide car repairing and mosquito net installing/repairing services at 12 police stations in the Metropolitan Police Area 7 until January 29. In future they would extend the project to all city police areas, he added.
Deputy city police chief Pol Maj-General Nipon Charoenpol welcomed this project – also sponsored by Ovec in terms of funding and tools – as many police vehicles are in deteriorated condition.
He said overall 12 precincts reported 800 vehicles that are in need of maintenance and repair.
