Fresh challenge against True Corp

Total Access Communication and Advanced Info Service jointly sought the telecom regulator's investigation into the "irregular" transfer of customers from their networks at a convenience store chain.

In a statement, both companies did not name True Corp, the other operator which is under Charoen Pokphand Group's umbrella, in its petition. CP Group owns a majority stake in True Corp and CP All, the operator of over 8,000 7-Eleven convenience stores in Thailand.
Under number portability, all users can switch from one operator to another and maintain the existing phone number.
Dtac and AIS said in the statement that "a mobile phone operator" allowed the transfer of customers from other networks to its network at convenience stores, sparking doubts whether the transfer meets the rules prescribed by the National Telecommunications and Broadcasting Commission.
They said that the NBTC should investigate if the transfer process and documentation meets the rules following the irregularly high number of transfers which could cause massive damage. Without required papers and signature, any person can steal numbers from original users and there will be no way to identify the original customers. Moreover, such practices could affect the level-playing field.
This petition is "to seek NBTC's quick actions in probing this matter. In case of violations, it is urged to take action and levy fines on the violator."
Last week, True filed a petition to police, charging AIS of blocking customers from switching to True’s network.
