Separately, Mitsubishi is issuing a recall of 550,000 cars worldwide, including 152,000 in Japan, over the same problem, a spokeswoman said.
Takata's defective airbag inflators have forced carmakers to recall more than 50 million vehicles globally since 2008.
Its faulty airbags could rupture explosively when deployed, spraying metal fragments at drivers as well as passengers.
