The former prime minister and a senior figure of Chartthaipattana Party was hospitalized in the middle of the night on Wednesday, suffering from his chronic asthma. His family members attempted to use an inhaler to help him breath but failed and Banharn also had oppression in the chest.
The dean of Siriraj’s medicine faculty Doctor Prasit Wattanapa said that the politician’s condition was still critical. Banharn still needed medication for his heart and for bronchodilation to regain his normal respiration and thus had to remain in the ICU, the doctor explained.
“Multiple medications are involved in his treatment making it difficult to say whether he was conscious or unconscious. He would still need close medical attention,” the doctor added.
