Former SCB manager ordered to repay stolen funds

The Court of Appeals Thursday upheld a verdict in a civil case against a former manager of a Siam Commercial Bank (SCB) branch who has been convicted of stealing funds from an ailing woman’s bank account.

The defendant, Thanomsak Chalitangkool, was ordered to repay Bt20 million to the 63-year-old plaintiff Uamboon Jansama.
The sum is subject to a 7.5-per-cent interest rate, which will be calculated starting from 2012, the year in which the money was found to be missing from Uamboon’s bank account.
The Court of Appeals upheld the conviction and punishment meted out by a lower court.
