ANN Board elects Dawn editor as new chairman

BEIJING - Zaffar Abbas from Pakistan will helm the 21-member media alliance.

The board of the Asia News Network (ANN) elected on Tuesday Zaffar Abbas, editor of Dawn newspaper in Pakistan, as the new chairman of the 21-member alliance.

ANN editors also launched the new website at the end of the board meeting held in Beijing and hosted by China Daily.

"I'm thrilled that ANN members elected me and Dawn as the new chairman," Abbas said.

"I personally think there is a huge potential in this organisation, and if we organise ourselves right from sharing the news to other endeavours, we can do wonders with quality journalism out of Asia."

The editors met for two days at China Daily's office to discuss future directions of the 17-year-old network amid technological changes and growing interest for in-depth stories on the region.

Earlier in the day, Jin Liqun, president of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, addressed the editors on the bank's plans and incoming projects.

The next board meeting will be held in Islamabad.
