Former singer ‘Tom Dundee’ jailed 7 years, six months for lese majeste conviction

The Criminal Court Tuesday convicted red-shirt leader and former singer Thanat Thanawatcharanon or Tom Dundee in lese majeste charges and sentenced him to seven years and six months in jail.

The court initially sentenced Thanat to 15 years in jail on three counts of lese majeste charges. The court commuted the sentence by half because he pleaded guilty.
The court was told that Thanat attacked the Royal Family while making a speech at a red-shirt rally on November 13 2013. He then posted the video clip of his speech on YouTube and other social networks during November 13 2013 to April 26 2014. He was arrested on July 9 2014.
When the trial started on January 25 this year, Thanat pleaded innocence but on May 30, he changed his plea to guilty and asked for court’s mercy.
Thanat said he would not appeal against the ruling.
