Six smuggled Cambodians killed in road accident

A speeding pick-up truck carrying 30 smuggled Cambodian workers crashed into a power pole and fell into a road-side ditch early Wednesday, killing six of them and injuring 24 others.

Sukpieb Son, 30, a Cambodian man who survived the accident, said the truck driver was speeding the truck trying to flee from a chasing vehicle of police.
The accident happened at 2 am on the Suwannasorn Road in Sakaew's Wattana Nakhon district.
Most of the killed workers were trapped underwater by the overturned truck.
The injured workers were rushed to the Wattana Nakhon and Aranyaprathet hospitals.
Sukpieb said the accident happened just 7 kilometres from the Rong Klua market where they were picked up. The pick-up driver, Sai Chalermsri, 43, spotted a vehicle chasing from behind so he sped up.
The pick-up driver was also injured and was found unconscious in nearby bush.
