Appeals Court upholds two-year term against Jatuporn

The Appeals Court Friday upheld a two-year imprisonment sentence against red-shirt leader Jatuporn Prompan for defaming former prime minister Abhisit Vejjajiva.

Jatuporn, chairman of the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD), was found guilty of causing damage to Abhisit’s reputation when he accused him of ordering “cold-blooded” killings of protesters in 2009.
The court granted Jatuporn’s request for temporary release, with a bail of Bt200,000, on condition that he does not leave the country without court permission.
He is to appeal his case with the Supreme Court.
