Article 44 order to provide 15 years of free education takes effect

The Education Ministry will have to prepare a law that ensures 15 years of free education for Thai children within six months since the latest order by the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) took effect Wednesday.

NCPO chief General Prayut Chanocha issued the order under the Article 44 of the Interim Constitution, which has given him the overwhelming power.
The move reflects that the NCPO intention to assure the public that the number of free educational years will not be shortened.
At present, current laws stipulate that the government must provide free education for 12 years. However since 2009, the government has made it a policy to give 15 years of free education.
