Government Spokesperson Maj-Gen Sansern Kaewkamnerd said that the centres, established since last Friday in all provinces and districts, have been assigned with planning emergency measures, monitoring situations, and setting up road checkpoints.
The centres will also gather intelligence on movements that may stir up turmoil or distort the charter draft’s contents as well as other actions deemed violating the referendum act, Sansern said. The centres will also monitor against violations of the public assembly act, the spokesman added.
The provincial centres are directed by provincial governors while district chiefs will take charge of operations in their districts, Sansern added. The centres are assigned to create executive reports in pre-referendum phase during July 1- August 6, the referendum date on August 7 and post-referendum phases from August 8 to 10 or until the authorities are certain that there will be no violence or untoward incidents.
