Mahidol group accuses woman of embezzlement

Mahidol group accuses woman of embezzlement

THE MAHIDOL University Dentistry Alumni Association yesterday accused a high-society woman overseeing production of the association’s May 1 charity concert of embezzling Bt2.6 million.

The association will be discussing the issue with her on July 21.
Meanwhile, an event organiser company, which didn’t receive payment or a “Anumothanabat” donation receipt, said they would sue the woman for fraud to help the association recover the money and to ensure justice.
Association president Nitipan Jiraphaet said his group had hired her on a personal recommendation in anticipation of getting public attention and more donations.
Out of the association’s total budget of Bt3.5 million plus Bt100,000 for press conference fees, the production supervisor withdrew Bt2.6 million but the event did not meet expectations and she asked for the outstanding payment, he said. The concert raised Bt10 million.
When Masterpiece Organiser Co Ltd executive Pradit Somdungjait later asked the association directly for the donation receipt because his firm had spent Bt200,000 to host the press conference and he wanted to donate that amount to the association, he was told that the association had already paid Bt100,000 for the conference. As the accounts did not tally, the association filed a complaint at Phyathai Police Station.
Pradit said the production supervisor, during the time, claimed the association had not allocated a budget for holding the event yet, therefore he had spent Bt700,000 from the firm’s coffers. Responding to his complaint on Facebook, she offered to pay him Bt700,000 to settle the matter, he said.
